Synopsis

**Synopsis**

In the autumn of 1661, Jean-Luc Marchand, a pragmatic logistics officer of the French Royal Army, is swallowed by a strange storm in the Ardennes—and wakes to find himself standing before the gates of a depot that should not exist. It is his own, but from a future three hundred years distant, crammed with modern rations, steel tools, surgical kits, and engineering marvels beyond the ken of any alchemist. Armed with this impossible inventory, and a mind trained for supply, Marchand must navigate the glittering and treacherous world of Louis XIV's Versailles. From the counting-houses of Jean-Baptiste Colbert to the smoke of the Dutch War, he dispenses his secrets one precious item at a time—a coil of wire here, a vial of quinine there—to buy influence, forge alliances, and save lives. But every gift draws the eye of the King, and the King’s enemies. As war engulfs Europe, Marchand must decide if he is a catalyst for glory, or a traitor to the future he left behind.
